Who We Are

  • In 1994, a group of Alameda parents, nonprofit organizations, government leaders and concerned citizens met to discuss ways to address the needs of Alameda youth. The collaboration led to the first annual Stand for Children event and then to a series of meetings with the City of Alameda (City), Alameda County, Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), and agencies in the City that serve youth where continued support for families from a youth perspective was discussed. The Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth and their Families (ACCYF) was born to serve as a clearinghouse of information, an incubator of innovative ideas and an advocate collaboration for children, youth and families in Alameda by assessing and mapping community resources, providing a report card on the status of children, youth and families, creating a comprehensive website for parents, youth and member organizations, and meeting monthly to present youth-oriented programs and services to the community. ACCYF is co-chaired by the Alameda County District 3 Supervisor, the Mayor of Alameda and the AUSD School Board President.

Meet the board!

  • Brandon

Hi! My name is Brandon Chu and I am currently a senior at Alameda High School. I joined the ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee because of the endless opportunities the committee gives to youth to bring change to our community. Often, youth are overlooked in society, but I appreciate that this committee helps youth in Alameda learn how to represent their voices. In my free time, I love watching TV shows, movies, listening to music, and spending time with my loved ones.

  • Naomi

My name is Naomi Abraham and I’m a senior at Alameda High School. I joined ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee (YAC) to give a voice to concerns that I and many of peers have regarding our community. As teenagers, we are not typically given much of a say regarding decisions that impact our lives. As Vice President of YAC, I am excited for the change that we can accomplish by working together. I love listening to and discovering new music. My favorite artist is Taylor Swift because her discography is versatile and reaches across many genres.

  • Natalie

Hi! My name is Natalie Sun and I am a 16 year old 11th grade students attending Alameda Community Learning Center (ACLC) and a resident of Alameda. As the HIstorian of ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee, I spend my time taking photos and videos to my heart’s content. I hope to document youth in Alameda striving to have their voices heard. Other than photography, I enjoy drawing and listening to music.

  • Nina

Hi! I’m Nina and I am a senior at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School and Secretary on the ACCYF Youth Advocacy Board (YAC). I believe that allowing every voice to be heard in our community is vital and it is a large reason why I joined this committee. I do a lot of advocacy work in Alameda. I am a Peer Coordinator for Tobacco Use and Prevention Education and interned with the City of Alameda in the Base Reuse and Economic Development Department where I worked on Rise Up Alameda, the two-year guaranteed income pilot program that will provide $1,000 per month to 150 low-income Alamedans. I love crocheting and taking road trips with my friends and family. Please contact me if you have questions about YAC!

  • Sean

My name is Sean Phu, and I am a current senior attending Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School. I joined the ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee because I believe in the power and change that youth can make in a world where life may seem hopeless. As the Outreach Coordinator, I utilize my communication skills and network to achieve the goals of our committee. Previously I had experience as the ACCYF Community Discussions Facilitator at my school to explore the difficulties that youth and their families may deal with. Outside of ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee, I am very much involved with other public health and community service organizations. I am the Lieutenant Governor of Division 2 South CNH Key Club International, a Youth Advocacy Intern at our School Based Health Center initiated by Alameda Family Services, YES Team President and Blood Donor Ambassador of the American Red Cross, a TUPE Peer Educator at Encinal, and the Volunteer Coordinator of 100KTreesForHumanity. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, attending classes through the Peralta College system, and serving my community.

  • Sesina

My name is Sesina Haile and I’m a senior at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School. I joined the ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee (YAC) because I am a strong advocate for youth perspectives in my immediate community. I have the determination to accomplish and have been given a pathway by being appointed to serve as the President of YAC. I’m really interested in horror movies. My favorite director is Jordan Peele.

  • Wilma Chan

In the words of Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Wilma Chan was a longtime dedicated public servant who served the residents of Alameda for more than two decades as a former State Assembly Member, Speaker of the Assembly and Alameda County Board of Supervisors. Former Supervisor Chan was a tireless advocate for seniors, children and families, promoting programs that advance children's health and help lift people out of poverty, plus so much more. Her compassion, strong sense of community and devotion to the people she served will be profoundly missed.
