ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee

City staff ask the support of ACCYF members to establish and convene an ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee (Youth Committee), which will create a space where local youth can meet on a regular basis, speak about community issues, develop an advocacy plan to communicate youth needs to persons in positions of influence and power, and generate an open environment for youth of all genders, races, religions, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc. to participate.

What is ACCYF?

The Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth, and their Families (ACCYF) is a partnership between the City of Alameda, the County of Alameda, Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), Alameda non-profit agencies that serve youth and families, and interested community members. ACCYF serves as a clearinghouse of information, an incubator of innovative ideas, and a collective advocate for Alameda's children, youth, and families.

How do I get involved with ACCYF?

It’s as simple as joining one of our meetings! The ACCYF Youth Advocacy Committee (YAC) holds meetings every Wednesday at 3:30 pm. The Zoom link is here. Joining a meeting is easy, and we’ll be sure to get you updated on what we’ve been doing and help you find a way to be involved! Or, fill out the form on the right for us!

What is YAC working on right now?

ACCYF has formed three work groups supporting mental health, safety, and youth advocacy.

How old do I need to be to be part of the YAC?

Youth must be 14 years old or entering 8th grade.

Do I need to live in Alameda to be part of the YAC?

Youth members need to live in Alameda or attend school in Alameda.

What are the benefits of joining YAC?

Make new friends, learn about resources in your community, build your resume, and earn service hours.

How do I get updates from ACCYF and YAC?

Join the mailing list here and/or contact Yasamin Obaidy at yobaidy@alamedaca.gov.

What events has the ACCYF Youth Committee done in the past?

As ACCYF Youth Committee is a new Committee with the ACCYF organization, we have not taken on what most would consider an abundance of projects. That is not to say that what we have accomplished is minimal. So far, we have held a logo design competition for ACCYF, made improvements in technology with the creation of this website, publicized important opportunities such as CalKIDS economic aid and Alameda City Government Internships, and are currently working on a service project to distribute CORT furniture to local organizations in need.

Who can I contact about ACCYF?
